Services & Policies

Who can use the library and its resources?

Besides those affiliated with MTSM (students, staff, faculty), local residents or visitors with a legitimate need to access the Maly Library's resources may visit the library and/or register for a Guest Patron account. Legitimate need includes using the library's print and electronic collection. Visitors without a Maly Library account will need to sign in at the library service desk and present identification. Government-issued identification is required to register for a Guest Patron account.

We also welcome alumni, clergy, religious, OhioLINK members, and faculty and students from Atla member institutions as either Guest Patrons or Visitors. PLEASE NOTE: If you are a cardholder with an OhioLINK library, you do not need to establish a separate Maly Library account. You may borrow from our shelves using your home library account.

Upon graduation, a student has the option to either inactivate their library account or switch to a Guest Patron account. If graduates have a need to continue accessing the library’s resources at a level beyond what is available to Guest Patrons, please contact the Library Director.

*Books and videos may be borrowed. Journals, reference materials, and special collection items must be used on the premises.

**Library materials are automatically renewed unless there is a hold on the item. Patrons will receive courtesy email notices when books are due and/or overdue. Please take action when you receive these notices: return library materials or contact the library with questions. If items are lost or damaged, your privileges will be suspended until items are returned or fees paid. Fees may be waived if the patron purchases the exact item or a newer edition in very good used or new condition. Contact the library to receive detailed information about repurchasing your lost/damaged item.

If you lose/damage an ILL item (generally borrowed from outside Ohio), you will be charged whatever the lending library charges us.

How and when can I get help?

During regular operating hours, all Maly Library staff (librarians and students) can assist you with circulation (checking books in and out) and basic reference questions.

Librarians are available Monday through Friday, generally 8am-5pm. Please visit, call 513-233-6136, or e-mail library@athenaeum.edu for assistance or to make an appointment. We are here to help find resources, answer your reference and research questions, provide instruction on the use of library resources, etc. JUST ASK!

Do you have wi-fi access?

Yes. Please ask the library staff for the password.

Is food or drink allowed in the library? How about cell phone calls?

No food is allowed in the library. Covered drinks are permitted. Please take your phone conversations outside the library.
