What do the numbers on the spine label mean?

The Maly Library uses Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) to organize library material by subject. DDC is a useful tool to place items with similar content near each other. Browse the DDC range that you are interested in, and you may find something that would not have come up in an online catalog search. The DDC organizes knowledge into ten general subject classes and then subdivides them into more specific categories. Below is an overview of the subjects covered within each range, with a few specific DDC numbers for narrower topics.
