Interlibrary Loan: Interlibrary Loan

Learn how to request books and articles from libraries around the world using Interlibrary Loan.

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service offered to students and faculty. If you need a resource that is not available in Maly Library's print or electronic collection or through OhioLINK, the library can submit a request to obtain the item from another library.

The ILL process can vary in how long it takes to complete. Scanned articles typically take a few days but, depending on the provider, may be available the same day. Books shipped through the mail take longer, so please plan your requests accordingly.

Every effort is made to obtain ILL items from providers who do not charge us. However, some items may require an ILL fee. We will contact you if there is a fee to verify that the source is worth the cost to you. Generally, Maly Library covers this fee.

How Do I Request an Item?

There are two ILL request methods, depending on the source of your citation:

EBSCO Database Citations

If the article is found in an EBSCO database, but not in full-text, it may be requested through Interlibrary Loan.

  • From the results list, click on "Request Item."
  • The citation details will already be populated. Please add your name and email.
  • Be sure to click on the submit button at the bottom of the form. The request will be sent to a Maly librarian to process.
  • Articles will be e-mailed to you as soon as they arrive.

All Other Citations
